Languedoc-Roussillon

This beautiful region in the south of France, adjacent to the Spanish border, has almost everything you could desire: a wonderful climate with hot summers and very mild winters, where the sun shines 320 days a year. Whether you prefer the sandy beaches of the Mediterranean or the majestic landscapes of the Pyrenees, you will find both within easy reach. .

Perpignan, the major town with about 120 000 inhabitants, is a beautiful lively town with lots of shopping possibilities and a great cultural background, and should you wish to visit Barcelona, Toulouse, Montpellier or the fortified medieval town Carcassonne, they are all within 2 hours drive.

Le Perthus at the Spanish border, about 40 kms from Perpignan, has very low prices as regards: alcohol, tobacco, make-up, perfume and fine brands of sportswear, and the tax-free shopping paradise Andorra is only 3 hours drive away.

You will find the nearest winter sports resorts on your way to Andorra, approximately one hour’s drive from Perpignan.

There are many thermal baths in the area, as well as golf courses, riding schools, nautical centres etc., and you will also find vineyards with free tasting especially around Tautavel, Rivesaltes and Banyuls sur mer.

The local gastronomy is also worth sampling, and there are many very reasonably-priced restaurants. For the French, the best medicine for the stress of everyday life is enjoying a good meal with local wine sitting on a terrace facing the Mediterranean.

Whether you prefer a relaxing holiday lying on the beach, doing sport or visiting historical monuments – you will find it all in the Languedoc-Roussillon area.
